Treatment options include prescription and also over-the-counter medications due to availability, price and perceived lack of side effects.  The downside of some prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications range from potential serious side effects to headache rebound caused by the over use of these medications.  Breaking the rebound cycle requires complete cessation of medications.  Please consult your physician before discontinuing any prescribed medications for headache relief.  Withdrawal symptoms have the potential to be harsh (continuous headache), which can last for weeks.  Without an adjunct device to reduce the pain, failure will most likely occur.

Pain reduction can be achieved during the onset of a mild headache without medications by applying prolonged pressure between 6 to 10 minutes using the reusable NOMED® Headache Reduction Band.*  This prolonged force is believed to cause constriction of dilated blood vessels particularly the cranial arteries which are irritating the underlying nerve bundles, specifically the auricular -temporal branch of the trigeminal nerve.*
